Jason T. Serrano

Chief Executive Officer

Jason T. Serrano serves as our Chief Executive Officer. Mr. Serrano was appointed Chief Executive Officer effective January 1, 2022. On January 7, 2019, the Board of Directors appointed Mr. Serrano to serve as the President of the Company. The Board of Directors appointed Mr. Serrano as a director of the Company on March 19, 2019. Prior to joining the Company, Mr. Serrano was a Partner at Oak Hill Advisors, L.P. (“OHA”), an alternative investment management firm, from April 2008 to December 2018. While at OHA, Mr. Serrano ran the mortgage investment business. Prior to joining OHA, Mr. Serrano served as a Principal at The Blackstone Group, where he led the structured finance investment team. Before Blackstone, he spent five years at Fortress Investment Group as Vice President, assisting in the management of $2 billion of distressed structured products and whole-loan portfolios. He also spent five years at Moody’s as a rating analyst for collateralized debt obligations and derivatives. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Oswego State University.

Nicholas Mah

President

Nick is responsible for the firm’s portfolio management and trading of mortgage securities and re-performing and business purpose mortgage loans.

On December 12, 2022, the Board of Directors appointed Mr. Mah to serve as the President of the Company.  Nick previously served as Managing Director since joining the Company in 2018.  Prior to joining NYMT, Nick was a Portfolio Manager and Managing Director at Oak Hill Advisors, L.P. (“OHA”), where he was one of the founding members of the mortgage business. Over the course of his 10 year tenure at OHA, he had responsibilities encompassing portfolio management, trading and financing of single family mortgage securities and whole loans. Nick previously worked at The Blackstone Group and Fortress Investment Group, where he was involved in the asset management, investment analysis and trading across a variety of distressed securitized product sectors.

Nick earned a B.S. from Carnegie Mellon University, where he graduated with University Honors.

Kristine R. Nario-Eng

Chief Financial Officer

Kristine R. Nario-Eng is our Chief Financial Officer. Ms. Nario-Eng was named Chief Financial Officer of the Company effective May 14, 2014. Ms. Nario-Eng previously served as the Company’s Controller, a position she held since joining the Company in November 2012. Prior to joining the Company, Ms. Nario-Eng was an Assistant Vice President at Deutsche Bank AG (and certain of its affiliates) from August 2010 to November 2012, where she held positions in financial control and accounting services. Prior to joining Deutsche Bank AG, Ms. Nario-Eng was employed at Grant Thornton LLP from October 2005 to August 2010, where she gained experience in managing and supervising financial statement audits of privately- and publicly-held companies in various industries, including hedge funds, broker-dealers, private equity companies and REITs. Ms. Nario-Eng is a Certified Public Accountant (inactive) and graduated Cum Laude from the University of Santo Thomas, Manila, Philippines.

Steve B. Brannan

Managing Director

Steve manages the firm’s multifamily direct investment platform.

Prior to joining NYMT, Steve was a Director at BlackRock, where he was the principal architect in the design and implementation of the firm’s proprietary valuation and investment analysis technology platform along with managing the performance and financial analysis of the CMBS platform. Prior to BlackRock, he underwrote and structured commercial real estate transactions including Freddie Mac loans, CMBS loans, and property acquisitions at Helix Financial, acquired by BlackRock. He also has prior experience in multifamily tax credit syndication with GMACCH, underwriting and structuring for its originations business.

Steve earned a B.S. from Vanderbilt University.

Steve L. Hogue

Managing Director

Steve manages the firm’s asset management, valuation and credit monitoring of multifamily related investments.

Prior to joining NYMT, Steve was a Principal in the CMBS Capital Markets Group of Bank of America Securities for 10 years where he oversaw the execution of over $100 billion of fixed and floating rate CMBS transactions. Prior to Bank of America Securities, Steve spent approximately 5 years at the asset securitization practices of KPMG. He was also previously employed by PricewaterhouseCoopers, where he worked on reverse engineering and collateral due diligence for a wide variety of commercial and asset backed transactions.

Steve received a B. S. Finance and an MBA with a Finance concentration from Virginia Tech.
